As some of you may know, I lost a young dog to seizures. That’s part of the reason I started down the holistic path to pet care. I wish I had known then and at least been able to try a keto diet for him.

However, a keto diet must be carefully planned to avoid nutritional imbalances. High fat content can also pose risks, such as pancreatitis, especially in dogs with pre-existing conditions.

As with any diet, there are circumstances when it may not be a good idea. It really depends on the individual dog’s health, lifestyle, and dietary needs.

- Pancreatitis: High-fat diets can trigger pancreatitis in some dogs, a painful and potentially dangerous condition. If your dog has already suffered from pancreatitis, it’s important to speak with a nutritionist and weigh the risks and benefits.
